Ingredients:
- 7 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- 10 ounces large marshmallows
- 14 ounces Kraft caramels
- 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
Instructions/Directions:
1. Prepare for Assembly:
- Line a Baking Sheet: Start by lining a baking sheet with parchment paper to create a non-stick surface for the finished Rice Krispie balls. This also simplifies cleanup.
2. Melt the Caramels:
- Combine Ingredients: In a medium saucepan, combine 14 ounces of Kraft caramels, 14 ounces of sweetened condensed milk, and 2 tablespoons of butter.
- Heat and Stir: Place the saucepan over medium heat. Stir frequently to melt the caramels evenly until the mixture is smooth, which should take about 5-7 minutes. Keep stirring to avoid burning.
3. Coat the Marshmallows:
- Dip the Marshmallows: Once the caramel mixture is smooth, use a toothpick to skewer each marshmallow. Dip each marshmallow into the caramel, turning it to ensure even coating.
- Work Quickly: The caramel will begin to set as it cools, so be sure to coat the marshmallows quickly.
4. Roll in Cereal:
- Prepare the Cereal: Place 7 cups of Rice Krispies cereal in a large shallow bowl or spread it out on another baking sheet for easy rolling.
- Roll Marshmallows: After coating a marshmallow in caramel, immediately roll it in the Rice Krispies cereal until fully covered. Press the cereal onto the marshmallow with your hands if necessary to ensure it sticks.
- Place on Baking Sheet: Transfer the coated marshmallow to the prepared baking sheet. Continue this process with the remaining marshmallows.
5. Set to Cool:
- Remove Toothpicks: Once all marshmallows are coated and rolled, carefully remove the toothpicks.
- Allow to Set: Let the Rice Krispie balls cool on the parchment paper for about 30 minutes to help them maintain their shape and reduce stickiness when served.
Prep time: 15 minutes
Total time: 45 minutes
Servings: Approximately 20-25 balls
