Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup butter
- 2 cups dark brown sugar, tightly packed
- 1 cup golden syrup
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 4 teaspoons heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons vanilla essence
- 1 teaspoon salt (to taste)
Instructions
- Melt the Butter
- In a large, heavy-bottomed pot, melt the butter over medium heat, ensuring it doesn’t brown.
- Combine Ingredients
- Stir in the dark brown sugar and golden syrup, mixing until well combined. Continue stirring until the sugar dissolves completely, forming a smooth mixture.
- Add Sweetened Condensed Milk
- Gradually pour in the sweetened condensed milk while stirring constantly. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil.
- Simmer
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium-low. Simmer for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring frequently, until the mixture thickens slightly. Be careful not to let it burn.
- Incorporate Cream and Flavorings
- Remove the pot from the heat, then whisk in the heavy cream, vanilla essence, and salt. Adjust the salt to your taste.
- Cool
- Let the caramel sauce cool slightly before serving. It will thicken as it cools. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
