For the Crust:
- 1 package refrigerated pie crusts
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
For the Filling:
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 pound ground sausage or Italian sausage, casing removed
- 1 cup pizza sauce
- 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1/2 cup pepperoni slices
- 1/2 cup bell peppers, diced
- 1/2 cup mushrooms, sliced
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
Additional Toppings:
- Extra mozzarella cheese
- Extra pepperoni slices
Instructions
Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Roll out pie crust and place in a deep-dish pie plate.
- Brush with olive oil and pre-bake for 8 minutes. Set aside.
Make the Filling:
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Sauté onion and garlic until softened.
- Add sausage and cook until browned, breaking it up. Drain off excess grease.
- Stir in pizza sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, bell peppers, mushrooms, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Cook until cheese is melted and mixture is combined.
Assemble and Bake:
- Pour the filling into the pre-baked crust.
- Top with additional cheese and pepperoni.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until crust is golden brown and filling is bubbly.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
