Easy Sausage and Pepper Pizza Pie | Comfort Food

For the Crust:

  • 1 package refrigerated pie crusts
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

For the Filling:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground sausage or Italian sausage, casing removed
  • 1 cup pizza sauce
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup pepperoni slices
  • 1/2 cup bell peppers, diced
  • 1/2 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Additional Toppings:

  • Extra mozzarella cheese
  • Extra pepperoni slices

Instructions

Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Roll out pie crust and place in a deep-dish pie plate.
  3. Brush with olive oil and pre-bake for 8 minutes. Set aside.

Make the Filling:

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Sauté onion and garlic until softened.
  3. Add sausage and cook until browned, breaking it up. Drain off excess grease.
  4. Stir in pizza sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, bell peppers, mushrooms, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Cook until cheese is melted and mixture is combined.

Assemble and Bake:

  1. Pour the filling into the pre-baked crust.
  2. Top with additional cheese and pepperoni.
  3. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until crust is golden brown and filling is bubbly.
  4. Let cool slightly before serving.
